Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan has entered concussion protocol after exiting the club’s season opener against the Utah Royals.
Club officials confirmed Morgan would not return to the match after she collided with Royals’ goalkeeper Abby Smith in the 45th minute of the match. Morgan went down and was examined on the pitch before being led to the locker room.
Morgan left the match with the score tied 1-1.
Forward Chioma Ubogagu came on for Morgan in the second half of Saturday’s match.
Morgan played alongside Marta and Sydney Leroux at the top of of a 4-3-3 formation to start the match. She had a shot on goal in the 28th minute, but it was easily saved by Smith. Her shot was one of two on-target shots for the Pride int he first half of Saturday’s match.
Morgan had nine goals and four assists in 13 appearances (12 starts) for the Pride last season.
