Los Angeles FC have signed 20-year-old Ecuadorian defender Diego Palacios using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). The transaction was completed before Major League Soccer’s secondary transfer window closed Aug. 7, but was announced by LAFC on Monday afternoon.
Palacios was signed from SD Aucas, which plays in Primera Categoría Serie A in Ecuador. He spent last season on loan to Willem II in the Eredivisie in Holland. He also plays for the Ecuadorian national team, making his debut against Qatar on Oct. 12, 2018.
“Diego is an impressive young player who has drawn interest from some of the top clubs in the world,” LAFC executive vice president and general manager John Thorrington said a statement released by the club. “We are excited that Diego has chosen to come to Los Angeles to develop and grow in the next stage of his career.”
