Orlando Pride waives striker Chioma Ubogagu

The striker will not continue playing in the NWSL, pursuing options in Europe.

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Pride waived forward Chioma Ubogagu on Thursday afternoon. Ubogagu will leave the NWSL, pursuing the option of playing with a team in Europe.

“On behalf of everyone at the Pride, we’d like to thank Chioma for her contributions to the Club over the last three seasons,” Orlando Pride general manager Erik Ustruck said. “We wish her the best of luck in this next career move.”

Ubogagu has played with the team since she was traded from the Houston Dash in January 2017. In those two and a half seasons, she has notched 12 goals and seven assists for the Pride. She trails only Marta in scoring this season, netting four goals for the team.

After the announcement, Ubogagu posted on social media to thank the club and her coaches and teammates.

The striker did not appear in the team’s most recent game against the Washington Spirit, attending a wedding with an excused absence from team activities. She scored one goal and assisted the other in the team’s 2-1 win over the Chicago Red Stars last Wednesday.
