Streaking down the field, Josef Martinez beat out Philadelphia Union defenders, received a long ball and then nailed it with his left foot. The shot rocketed upward toward the near post and hit the underside of the crossbar before falling into the net.
The goal gave Atlanta United a 2-0 lead over the Union in the 80th minute of Thursday night’s Eastern Conference semifinal. The Five Stripes will now advance to the conference final to host Toronto FC at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.
