New England Revolution sign Dutch left back Alexander Büttner

Büttner, 30, joins the Revolution after stints with Vitesse, Manchester United, Dynamo Moscow, and Anderlecht

Alexander Büttner is officially a member of the New England Revolution.

The Revolution signed the 30-year-old Dutch left back using Targeted Allocation Money, the club announced Friday. Büttner joins the Revs on a free transfer following a stint with SBV Vitesse. Additional contract details were not disclosed.

Pro Soccer USA first reported Büttner’s imminent arrival in Foxborough after he was invited for a trial in September. He joins the team on a two-year deal, according to sources with direct knowledge of the agreement.

“Alexander brings experience at the game’s most competitive levels, and his skill and pedigree will make him an important asset for the club on and off the field,” Revolution sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said in a statement.

Büttner has also played for Ajax, Manchester United, Dinamo Moscow and RSC Anderlecht. He reportedly turned down offers from Celtic FC and Rangers Football Club to join the Revolution.

He also has been capped seven times by the Netherlands at the youth level, making one appearance for the under-19s and six additional appearances for the under-20s.
