Zlatan Ibrahimovic statue vandalized again in Malmo, nose cut off

Ibrahimovic’s announcement last month to buy a stake of Stockholm-based premiership club Hammarby triggered angry reactions among Malmo FF fans.

STOCKHOLM — A statue of Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been vandalized again in his home city of Malmo, according to various reports.

Part of the nose has been sawed off, one little toe was missing and the golden statue was covered in silver paint, images published by daily Kvallsposten showed. It was not clear when the latest vandalism took place.

“We have not received any complaint, but urge people who know anything about the incident to contact the police,” a police spokeswoman told the daily.

Ibrahimovic’s announcement last month that he was to buy a stake of Stockholm-based premiership club Hammarby, triggered angry reactions among Malmo FF fans — Ibrahimovic’s former club. That spilled over into several incidents of vandalism targeting the 3-meter high statue that was erected in October.

The 38-year-old striker recently completed his second season for Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer, but is now reported to be seeking a contract in Italy.

US group Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) owns LA Galaxy and part of Hammarby Fotboll AB.
