NWSL injury report ahead of weekend matches

The National Women’s Soccer League released its injury report ahead of matches this weekend.

The Washington Spirit and Chicago Red Stars are dealing with the most injuries, each with four players out and one player questionable.

The North Carolina Courage also are dealing with a slew of injuries, with three players out and Samantha Mewis still listed as questionable with a right knee strain. The same can be said for the Portland Thorns, who will have three players out due to injury and star midfielder Tobin Heath questionable after a minor right ankle surgery. The Oregonian reported Thursday that Heath will not play in the Thorns’ home opener against Orlando Sunday.

The report also includes players away on international duty, such as Chicago’s Sam Kerr (Australia), Orlando’s Marta (Brazil) and Seattle’s Nahomi Kawasumi and Rumi Utsugi (Japan), among others.

The Orlando Pride lose the most players to international duty with five. The Thorns and Seattle Reign each lose four players, while Washington will be without two players and the rest of the teams each lose one.
