Atlanta United and New York City FC put on a show Sunday night in front of an announced crowd of 45,001 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The match featured four goals, a fifth negated by an offside call and a Barco debut.

Greg Garza scored for Atlanta and Chris McCann put in the second one, finding space at the top of the box to head a Miguel Almirón cross into the near post. NYCFC equalized in the first half when David Villa — who came in for an injured Ismael Tajouri-Shradi in the 35th minute — converted a penalty kick. Villa contributed to the second-half equalizer, too, working hard to evade defenders and maintain possession in the box until Alexander Ring appeared to accept a backward pass. Ring rifled a jaw-dropping strike from outside the 18 into the upper right corner of the goal, where the ball dinged the crossbar before ricocheting into the net for a 2-2 draw.
