FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution left back Chris Tierney faces some uncertainty about whether he’ll be able to return to the playing field this season.
Tierney sustained a non-contact injury just before halftime of Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw against Atlanta United at Gillette Stadium and went down clutching his knee.
After the match, Revolution coach Brad Friedel said Tierney would need an MRI and that no specifics or timetable were available regarding the injury. However, Revolution President Brian Bilello posted a somber note on Twitter regarding Tierney’s condition later Wednesday night.

Tierney has recorded one goal in five appearances this season. Now in his 11th season, Tierney, who is also a Boston-area native, has served as team captain and has 40 assists and 15 goals in all competitions for the Revolution.
Gabriel Somi entered the game for Tierney on Wednesday. Kelyn Rowe and Claude Dielna are also capable of slotting in as left backs.
