Orlando Pride’s Camila ‘very close’ to return after suffering knee injury

Brazilian midfielder Camila is still a couple of weeks away from making her return to match-day action for the Orlando Pride, but coach Tom Sermanni is encouraged by what he’s seen so far from her.

Camila has participated in the majority of training sessions for the Pride recently. She was held out of a team scrimmage on Thursday, but Sermanni said she participated in the rest of the club’s training session.

Camila, who had four goals and five assists in 22 starts in 2017, has been recovering from a knee injury she suffered in the 32nd minute of the Pride’s final regular season match of last season.

Sermanni said she’s “very close.”

“If you had a cup final tomorrow and you needed her to play, she could go on the field and play,” Sermanni said.

With a smile, he added, “That’s not going to happen. We’re still cautious with her. We still want to make sure she goes through the complete process.”

That’s the good news on the injury front for the Pride.

Brazilian star Marta – who has three assists in her last two matches – hasn’t been training this week. Club officials confirmed she’s dealing with some calf soreness and is being evaluated.
