Galaxy face San Jose Earthquakes in second Cali Clasico of the season

The Galaxy will be returning to MLS action this Saturday at 7p.m. PT as they travel to take on their Northern California rivals, the San Jose Earthquakes at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, Calif.

  • The LA Galaxy are 31-22-14 all time against San Jose, and 11-16-8 when facing San Jose on the road. The last time these two teams met was on May 25th when the Galaxy defeated the Earthquakes 1-0 at home at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., with a goal from Romain Alessandrini in the 82nd minute.
  • The Galaxy last MLS match was a 3-0 victory at home against Real Salt Lake on June 9th, with two goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and one goal from Ola Kamara. Since that match, the Galaxy traveled to Portland to face the Timbers in U.S. Open Cup play on Friday, June 15th. The Galaxy fell 1-0 to the Timbers. Following the USOC match, the Galaxy had about a week off, and resumed training on Monday June 25th.
  • Both Giovani and Jonathan Dos Santos are still with the Mexican National Team in Russia for the World Cup. Giovani Dos Santos came in as a sub for thirteen minutes plus stoppage time for Mexico’s match against South Korea, but that has been the only time either Dos Santos has seen playing time in Russia. Mexico are set to face Brazil on Monday morning in the Round of 16.
  • Forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic also traveled to Russia to take part in World Cup festivities, but has returned to regular training with his LA Galaxy side.
  • Injured players took advantage of the World Cup break, as Romain Alessandrini and Ola Kamara both participated in practice this week. Sebastian Lletget is not expected to travel for this match due to the high ankle sprain injury he sustained against RSL.
