After scoring double-digit goals in three consecutive seasons at UNLV, Danny Musovski has his sights set on even more at the next level.
Musovski, a 6-foot-tall forward, was one of 72 invitees to this week’s MLS Player Combine at Orlando City Stadium. Two recent mock drafts, one from MLSSoccer.com and the other from Bleacher Report, had the 22-year-old as the thirteenth overall selection, a pick currently held by Sporting Kansas City. Regardless of where he ends up, he knows how special it would be to get a call on draft night.
“It’s been my dream my whole life to play professional soccer,” Musovski said. “If I could go in the draft to any team that actually wants me and sees my value as a player, I’ll be happy.”
The UNLV product was selected to the 2017 All-West Region first team by United Soccer Coaches in addition to being named the Western Athletic Conference’s offensive player of the year. His 15 goals were tied for fourth-most in the country, but the scoring onslaught was nothing close to a surprise. He scored 12 goals in 2016 and 14 goals in 2015 after a six-goal freshman campaign in 2014.
Over his four college years, he earned two WAC offensive player of the year awards, two conference tournament MVPs and was a three-time first team selection to the all-conference team.
Musovski sees himself as a constant goal-scoring threat, and for good reason. He finished his four-year collegiate career with 47 goals, often scoring in droves. In a 5-1 win over Oral Roberts back on Sept. 24, he scored four goals and added an assist, tying school records for goals and points in a game. The team that selects him in next Friday’s MLS SuperDraft will get an instant boost to its offense.
“I’m a guy who can be dangerous in the offensive third,” he said. “I can definitely say teams are always looking for goals and I think I’ve proven that I can do that. Now I’m just here to ensure that I can do that.”
The Vegas native is no stranger to success, as he won seven state championships with his Las Vegas Sports Academy club team before going on to win the WAC Championship at UNLV in 2014 and 2016. Through it all, though, he credits his parents for getting him to where he is today.
“I’d definitely like to thank my parents the most,” he said. “They’ve always supported me, always pushed me and I think it’s paid off.”
