LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Football Club acquired Brazilian defender Danilo Silva on a five-month loan from Internacional, a Brazilian first division side, the club announced Friday.
To acquire Silva, LAFC traded a fourth-round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft to the New York Red Bulls for Silva’s MLS rights and gave $50,000 of General Allocation Money (GAM) to Toronto FC for an international roster slot.
Silva previously played under Bob Bradley in 2005 with the Metrostars to begin his professional soccer career at the age of 18. He made five appearances that season. In the years that followed, Silva returned to Brazil to play with Guarani, São Paulo and Internacional before heading to the Ukraine for a seven-year stint with Dynamo Kiev. He played there from 2010 to 2017, during which he made appearances in Champions League and Europa League play.
In 2017, Silva returned to Internacional. LAFC signed him using an undisclosed amount of Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). He’ll officially join the team once his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa are obtained.
“Danilo is a versatile defender who will be an important player for us as we continue improving the competitiveness of our team,” LAFC general manager John Torrington said in a statement released by the club. “His experience playing in the Champions League and at a high level in Europe and Brazil will be a great complement to our roster.”
