LA Galaxy fire VP of soccer operations Pete Vagenas

The LA Galaxy parted ways with vice president of soccer operations Pete Vagenas on Tuesday.

“We felt this move was in the best interest of the LA Galaxy going forward,” Galaxy President Chris Klein said in a statement released by the club.

Vagenas spent nine years with the Galaxy as a player after being drafted out of UCLA in the 2000 MLS SuperDraft. He played in the league with various teams through the 2012 season. The LA Galaxy named him general manager in November 2016 and promoted him to vice president of soccer operations following the 2017 season.

The organization also still is looking for a permanent head coach after Sigi Schmid’s departure in September.

“Our search for a leader of our soccer operations department and a head coach remains ongoing,” Klein said in the statement. “We’d like to thank Pete for all of his contributions to the LA Galaxy.”
