The New York Red Bulls took down Columbus Crew SC 3-0 (3-1 on aggregate) Sunday night to advance to the Eastern Conference final. Daniel Royer sealed the victory when he scored twice in the 73rd and 76th minutes. Alex Muyl scored the Red Bulls’ first goal in the 17th minute.
The Red Bulls will face Atlanta United, which beat New York City FC in an earlier semifinal, in the conference final.

There was some initial confusion about who scored the first goal. The league and team announced the goal belonged to MLS Defender of the Year Aaron Long, but a replay showed Long’s shot bounced off Muyl before going into the net. The league later corrected the stat on its website to reflect Muyl as the goalscorer.
At halftime, Crew SC coach Gregg Berhalter said his team needed “to be a little calmer on the ball. …We need to get into their half, keep the ball, keep it moving side to side.”
