LA Galaxy re-sign midfielder Chris Pontius

Pieces continue to fall back into place for the Galaxy. Midfielder Chris Pontius, who was set to be out of contract at the end of 2018, was re-signed Wednesday for the 2019 season. Pontius had 15 starts in 26 appearances for the Galaxy last season, notching five goals and six assists. Despite missing the last month and a half of the season due to injury, his productivity was vital to the Galaxy during a rough patch through the year.

“We are pleased to re-sign Chris and bring him back to our club,” LA Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese said in a statement released by the club. “Chris showed his value and versatility last year and was an important member of our squad. He is an asset on and off the field and we look forward to his continued contributions to our club.”

Pontius was one of three players, along with defender Dave Romney and midfielder Ema Boateng, who were out of contract at the end of 2018, but in negotiations for a new contract.
