Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo will play Liga MX side Tigres UANL in the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals next month.
Mauro Manotas’ brace off the bench helped the Dynamo hold off Guatemala’s Guastatoya 2-1 Tuesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas, to win the Round of 16 tie 3-1 on aggregate.
Guastatoya entered Tuesday’s second leg down a goal and got it back in the 72nd minute, when Aaron Navarro scored off an Isaac Acuna assist. The celebration lasted only briefly.
Manotas — subbed on for Ronaldo Peña in the 69th minute — accepted a cross from teammate Alberth Elis — subbed on in the 60th minute for Romell Quioto — to even the score 1-1 four minutes later and retake the aggregate lead.
A Manotas free kick was deflected into Guastatoya’s net in the 85th minute to close out the victory.
