Houston – Houston Dynamo homegrown player Memo Rodriguez won Major League Soccer’s Goal of the Week award for scoring against the Montreal Impact with a golazo key to his team’s Week 2 victory.
In the 36th minute, Rodriguez ripped a left-footed strike into Montreal’s net – opening up the scoreboard for La Naranja and tying the game. The Dynamo went on to win the game 2-1.

Rodriguez scored against Montreal in a similar manner in 2017, blasting the ball from at least 20 yards during his first MLS appearance after re-signing with the Dynamo after they waived him in 2015.
“It’s a good honor to be nominated for goal of the week,” Rodriguez said after training earlier this week, before finding out he had won. “Hopefully I will win, and hopefully there are more to come and we keep improving every day.”
The attacking midfielder said his goal came as a result of hard work and practicing similar shots over – scoring was the cherry on top. He also gave due credit to his team members for the goal.
Rodriguez is a true Dynamo product, having passed through each level of the Houston Dynamo Academy development process from the academy to the second-tier Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, and finally to the MLS team.
The Dynamo will look for their second home win when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps at 3 p.m. ET Saturday.
Thanks to everyone who voted for me means a lot! Hope to score more goals this season! & Hope to see all the Dynamo Fans @BBVACompassStdm at 2 PM on Saturday! 🧡🦊#ForeverOrange https://t.co/J9ZVgql50p
