LA Galaxy acquire international roster spot from NYCFC

LOS ANGELES — The LA Galaxy acquired an international roster spot Wednesday from New York City FC in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money and $75,000 in Targeted Allocation Money.

The Galaxy are reportedly pursuing Costa Rican defender Giancarlo González, who plays in Serie A with Bologna, according to LA Times reporter Kevin Baxter.

Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese has been vocal about his plan to bring in additional reinforcements, and this additional international roster slot is a second open one for the Galaxy, meaning there could be another deal in the works.

The Galaxy also still face allocation order as an obstacle to any potential González deal. The Galaxy currently sit 11th in the allocation ranking order and would have to bargain with other teams to find their way to the top. González must go through the allocation process because he previously played with the Columbus Crew in 2014 and was transferred out of the league for more than $500,000.
