NEW YORK — If you watch a lot of soccer on TV, then you will recognize the voice of Jon Champion. He has called games for more than 30 years and is currently the lead play-by-play voice for Major League Soccer matches on ESPN.
In this On Frame, Champion speaks to Pro Soccer USA’s Glenn Crooks about his career and assesses the current state of New York City FC following his broadcast of their match at Minnesota United last weekend.
Among those in attendance at the opening of Allianz Field, was City Football Group executive Brian Marwood – a former co-commentator with Champion in England. Champion visited with Marwood and said the man in charge of CFG’s satellite teams will stay and watch two more matches for the winless Pigeons – Sunday at D.C. United and Wednesday versus the Chicago Fire.
“I think it is significant that he’s around taking a look a what’s going on,” Champion said.
