A 2018 finalist for NWSL Rookie of the Year is on the move.
Sky Blue FC announced Wednesday that it had traded Savannah McCaskill to the Chicago Red Stars for a pair of draft picks. Those picks will be the Red Stars’ highest first and highest second round selections in 2020.
McCaskill, 22, is a product of the University of South Carolina and had played in six matches for Sky Blue this season, starting three times and tallying one assist. In 2018, her rookie campaign, she started in 17 of the 20 games she appeared in, scoring three goals and assisting on three others.
A 5-foot-4 forward, McCaskill scored 40 goals at South Carolina. Between the 2018 and 2019 NWSL seasons, she also played in Australia with Sydney FC, where she tallied five goals in 13 games. McCaskill has six caps for the USWNT.
Sky Blue is in eighth place in the league table, with a mark of 0-2-6. The Red Stars are in sixth with a 3-2-3 record, but have 11 points on the season, just six points behind first place Washington Spirit. The addition of McCaskill should bolster Chicago’s attack, which also includes world-class Australian striker Sam Kerr, who is currently competing at the World Cup.
“We were looking for another player with different attacking qualities than what we currently have to continue to improve our attacking options,” Chicago coach Rory Dames said in a statement. “We believe Savannah checked the boxes we were looking for to improve both our team on the field and our locker room.”
Comeau calls it quits
After five seasons in the NWSL, Houston Dash defender Taylor Comeau said she’s hanging up her boots.
The 25-year-old defender announced her retirement on Wednesday through a release from the club and on her Instagram page.
“I want to thank the Dash and the NWSL for the opportunity to be a professional female athlete,” Comeau said. “I also want to thank my teammates, family, and friends for always inspiring me to get better. Lastly, I want to thank the fans for all of the constant support.”

Comeau played her college soccer at Cal, where she scored 10 goals in 84 games. She began her pro career with the Portland Thorns, appearing in nine games in 2015, but really caught on with the Chicago Red Stars, featuring in 47 games with the club from 2016 through 2018. She also scored two goals with Chicago.
Houston acquired Comeau in a mid-season trade in 2018 and she started in 11 games. The 5-foot-6 native of Los Gatos, California started for the Dash on opening day this year, but then broke her arm and hasn’t played since.
