Portland Thorns coach Mark Parsons has been suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount after confronting an official following a road match Saturday against the North Carolina Courage.
The Thorns are appealing the disciplinary decision, according to a statement released Friday by the National Women’s Soccer League.
The NWSL announcement read:
“The NWSL Disciplinary Committee has determined that Parsons committed misconduct in his interactions with the officials in violation of Section 11.3.6, ‘Major Game Misconduct,’ as well as Section 11.3.3, ‘Coach/Staff Misbehavior’ of the League Operations Manual.
“In addition to the automatic one-game suspension for the dismissal by the Official, Parsons was further assessed an additional one-game suspension and fine.”
Parsons will serve the suspensions during Portland’s next two matches, March 31 at the Chicago Red Stars and April 15 at home against the Orlando Pride.
