The LA Galaxy will look to get back on track on the road Saturday against the Chicago Fire after last week’s 2-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City. The month of April brings a tough stretch of matches for the Galaxy, so if head coach Sigi Schmid is looking to get back into winning form, this is the right time to do it.
The Galaxy are 20-15-7 all time against the Fire, and 9-9-3 in Chicago. The Fire are coming off a 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew last week, with forward Nemanja Nikolic scoring the lone goal of the contest. Of note for LA Galaxy fans: Longtime fan favorite Alan Gordon started for the Fire in their match against Columbus, so there is a chance fans will get to see him on Saturday, as well.
Injury Updates
The Galaxy have several players working to get back into game shape, including Jonathan Dos Santos and Romain Alessandrini. Both started last week’s match. In training this week, Alessandrini happily reported he had no issues with his hamstring, but needed a game or two to continue working on his match fitness. Dos Santos played the entire match against Kansas City, although Schmid later said that was not the plan they had set ahead of the game.
Sebastian Lletget served as a substitute against SKC after getting stepped on in the team’s match against Vancouver. Luckily for Lletget, the knock he took recently was on his right foot and not the left foot, which sustained a lisfranc fracture last season.
As for the Galaxy’s newest signing, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he’s inching toward match fitness as well. He played 19 minutes in his first match against LAFC and 28 minutes against Sporting Kansas City. It is highly unlikely that he will get his first start in Chicago against the Fire, but there is a chance that he subs on at halftime to play a full 45 minutes.
