LAFC to play Borussia Dortmund in international friendly match

Los Angeles FC and Borussia Dortmund announced Tuesday they will soon face off in a friendly match. The teams will play at the newly-opened Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles on May 22.

The game will give LAFC fans a chance to watch their team compete against one of the strongest clubs in German history, and to see United States men’s national team star Christian Pulisic play in person. Tickets for the match will go on sale on April 23 on the team’s website.

Dortmund is supported by a passionate fanbase in Germany, and its success both on and off the field sets a standard for club teams around the world. For LAFC, the game will provide a chance to test itself against the European and German standards for stadiums, fields, fans and play.

“BVB has set the standard for supporter culture in global football and has proven that you can be a community-focused club that is successful on the field while putting your supporters and members first,” LAFC Chief Business Officer Larry Freedman said. “After personally experiencing the sight, sound and feeling of the Yellow Wall, I was energized by the challenge facing LAFC to live up to that standard. We look forward to welcoming BVB at Banc of California Stadium in May.”

The friendly will also offer an opportunity for the team to showcase its new stadium and grounds, which will open its gates to the public for the first time April 29 when LAFC hosts the Seattle Sounders.

“We are looking forward to coming from Dortmund to L.A. with our team,” said BVB Chief Marketing Officer Carsten Cramer. “We are excited to experience the atmosphere in LAFC’s new arena with its standing terrace and spectacular architecture with a view of the World’s City.”
