Chicago Red Stars roll to 3-0 win over Houston Dash

The Chicago Red Stars rolled to a 3-0 win over the Houston Dash Wednesday night at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill., recording their first home victory of the season.

The match drew an announced crowd of 2,327 and it was 34 degrees at kickoff.

Chicago’s Lauren Kaskie fed Sarah Gorden on the attack early in the match. When the Red Stars delivered a cross into the box, Houston’s Kristie Mewis slid to break up the play and instead recorded an own goal in the seventh minute. Four minutes later, Sofia Huerta’s shot was deflected off Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell’s foot and Kaskie put away the rebound. It was the first goal of Kaskie’s career.

In the 75th minute, Danielle Colaprico gathered the ball outside the 18-yard box and lobbed it toward the goal. Huerta headed the ball past Campbell to extend Chicago’s lead to 3-0.

Houston managed 10 shots during the match, but none were on goal and Chicago goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher had no trouble maintaining a clean sheet.

Chicago will host Sky Blue FC Saturday at 8 p.m., while Houston will travel to Orlando to face the Pride Sunday at 5 p.m.
