Three Things: Tim Parker’s dad needs New York Red Bulls updates

HARRISON, N.J. — Here are three things we learned from the New York Red Bulls 0-0 draw with the Philadelphia Union Saturday night.

Medical update on Lawrence

A week after being carted off the field and taken to an Atlanta-area hospital after laying motionless for a few moments, Kemar Lawrence looked solid and showed no ill-effects in playing the entire 90 minutes.

After the game, New York Red Bulls coach Jesse Marsch addressed Lawrence’s medical issues.

“It wasn’t concussion-related,” Marsch said. “It was something maybe with either a heart kind of reaction or something in his neck and then how that can somehow release chemicals to shut you down, like almost a whiplash-like neck thing. They have done a myriad of testing on him. Everything has come back very positive. He feels great, so there was no issues, right.”

A long time coming

In his first MLS start at Red Bull Arena since June 24, 2012, Ryan Meara made two saves to earn his first clean sheet since a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on May 9, 2012.

“Anytime you can play here it’s great,” Meara said. “It doesn’t feel like, I guess between all the Open Cup and Red Bull II games I feel like I’ve played here a bunch but anytime you get a game, it’s good. Opportunities are hard to come by so I try to make the most of it.”

Papa Parker needs updates

Apparently Major League Soccer broadcasts are tough to find in Aruba. At least according to the father of Red Bulls defender Tim Parker.

Ken Parker tweeted the Red Bulls looking to for information.

And Papa Parker got his response.

As for Tim Parker, he said he wasn’t surprised his dad was trying to find out about the game while on vacation.

“He told me before the game that he wasn’t going to be able to watch it,” Parker said. “To be honest I’m not surprised that he tweeted at the Red Bulls. It could be 2 o’clock in the morning and he would still be asking for updates.”
