VANCOUVER — Orlando City coach Jason Kreis was once again displeased with the officiating after the Lions 5-2 defeat on Saturday at the hands of the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place.
Five Lions received a total of six yellow cards, with left back Mohamed El-Munir sent off in the 58th minute after his second yellow card.
For the second time this season, Kreis was critical of officiating.
“For me, there was a great imbalance tonight about what was a caution and what was not a caution,” Kreis said. “You saw by looking at the statistics that the cautions, unfortunately, kept on going to the purple shirts.
“For me, I’ll say this, and I’ve said it many times, I have to say it again now, because it’s too many games in a row. For me, this team and this club get absolutely zero respect from referees. None. We go to a place like this, every critical decision went Vancouver’s way. Fine. It’s their home field. When are we going to see the same thing in Orlando?”
When his thoughts on why, in his mind, Orlando City receives an unfair amount of calls, Kreis said, “I have no answers for you. This is a moment where I get to be like a lot of other people in the world and just ask questions and point out negativities and walk away.”
Video review also went against Orlando City. The Whitecaps were awarded a penalty after VAR review determined a challenge from Amro Tarek in the penalty area on Yordy Reyna was worthy of a penalty kick. There originally was no call.
Kei Kamara converted the penalty kick attempt to put the Whitecaps up 3-1 in the 85th minute.
Only two Vancouver players were booked in Saturday’s match.
Kreis was also critical of the ref after Orlando City’s 2-1 loss to Atlanta United.
