Major League Soccer announced Friday it fined Seattle Sounders defender Jordan McCrary and midfielder Victor Rodriguez each an undisclosed amount for a pair of offenses in the club’s July 15 match against Atlanta United.
McCrary was fined for failing to leave the field in a timely fashion after he was sent off for a second yellow card in the 63rd minute. Rodriguez, meanwhile, was fined for diving after he went down on soft contact from defender Franco Escobar.
The match was a controversial affair, with Professional Referee Organization general manager Howard Webb acknowledging that referee Baldomero Toledo and Video Assistant Referee Alex Chilowicz had failed to give a penalty kick to Atlanta when Kim Kee-hee wrapped up Atlanta’s Chris McCann on a corner kick.
Josef Martinez, who headbutted Seattle centerback Chad Marshall after a ball went out of play in the 28th minute, and Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, who received a yellow after striking a trailing Nicolas Lodeiro in the head with both arms in the 15th, were not fined by the league.
