There’s still fallout from Orlando City’s July 21 match against Columbus Crew SC.
Orlando City has been issued an undisclosed fine by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for its second violation of the league’s mass confrontation policy — the first came in Orlando City’s 2-1 loss to Atlanta United — and coach James O’Connor was issued a warning for his first violation.
The Disciplinary Committee also issued undisclosed fines for Crew SC goalkeeper Zack Steffen, Orlando City goalkeeper Joe Bendik and Lions midfielder Uri Rosell for “instigating and escalating a mass confrontation during the 94th minute of the teams’ match.”
Crew SC midfielder Niko Hansen was also issued an undisclosed fine for violating the league’s policy regarding “hands to the face, head or neck of an opponent” in the 24th minute of the match.
The controversial match included a penalty call in the 86th minute that the Professional Referee Organization called “unjustified.” Referee Silviu Petrescu was the fourth official for D.C. United’s game against the New York Red Bulls a few days after the match, but he and the officiating crew from Orlando City’s loss to the Crew were suspended from working MLS games this weekend.
Unrelated to Orlando City’s match against the Crew, midfielder Cristian Higuita was hit with an undisclosed fine for simulation/embellishment in the 64th minute of Orlando City’s 2-0 loss to NYCFC on Thursday.
