LAFC acquires forward Christian Ramirez from Minnesota United

Los Angeles Football Club acquired Christian Ramirez, a Southern California native, from Minnesota United FC in exchange for up to $1 million dollars of allocation money dispersed over the next two seasons.

Minnesota United will receive $250,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2018 and 2019, $100,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) in 2018, $200,000 in Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) in 2019 and up to $200,000 in future Allocation Money based on the player’s performance with the club, according to a statement released by LAFC.

Ramirez, known to fans as “Superman,” has made 50 appearances for Minnesota, scoring 21 goals and 5 assists. He began his tenure with Minnesota in 2014, while the club still played in the North American Soccer League, and was one of few players to move to MLS with the Loons.

His Southern California roots run deep. Ramirez was born in Santa Ana, Calif., and attended La Quinta High School in Westminster, Calif. From there, he attended UC Santa Barbara (2009-10) and Concordia (2011-12) and played soccer at both institutions. At Concordia, he made 42 appearances and scored 41 goals, breaking school records in points in a season and points in one match.

“Christian has shown a consistent ability to score goals,” LAFC head coach Bob Bradley said in the club’s statement. “We’re excited to have him join the Club.”
