The LA Galaxy announced today they are loaning midfielder João Pedro to Gymansticos Apolln Smynis in Greek’s first division, Super League. The Galaxy reserve the right to recall Pedro at any point during the loan.
Pedro joined the Galaxy in January 2017 from Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães, where he spent more than a decade in their system. He joined Vitória Guimarães’ youth system in 2005 and rose to their B-side in 2012. He spent four years with their frist team, from 2014 to 2017 before joining the Galaxy in 2017.
During the 2018 season, Pedro was loaned to Galaxy 2 to give Galaxy enough international roster spots to accommodate the players on their roster. When defender Rolf Feltscher sustained a long term injury and temporarily vacated an international slot, Pedro was called up to the first team. Feltscher returned to first team action this month, meaning Pedro’s international roster spot was needed once again.
Pedro has appeared in three matches for the Galaxy during the 2018 season, with a total of 85 minutes played. In 2017, he played in 31 matches with 27 starts, totaling 2,306 minutes.
