Zlatan Ibrahimovic jersey is MLS’ best seller

Los Angeles Galaxy striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic now has even more street cred to back his magnanimous persona.

The Swedish icon tops a list of the 25 best-selling Major League Soccer jerseys in 2018, which the league released Monday.

Ibrahimovic leads the pack, but is followed in the top five by Los Angeles FC’s Carlos Vela, record-breaking goal scorer Josef Martinez of Atlanta United, D.C. United striker Wayne Rooney and Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron, last year’s top seller.

Fourteen of MLS’ 23 teams are represented inside the top 25. In addition, the top 25 contains eight players under 24 years old. There are also 14 different countries represented.

Seven of the 25 have also played for the United States men’s national team. Clint Dempsey, who has retired from competition, is still the top-selling jersey among American players in the league.

Atlanta has the most representatives on the list; joining Martinez and Almiron are Ezequiel Barco (10th), Darlington Nagbe (15th), and Hector Villalba (18th)

The rankings are based on overall retail sales of Adidas MLS jerseys on MLSStore.com since the start of 2018, the league said.
