The Portland Timbers nearly broke a scoreless draw in the 70th minute of Sunday night’s Western Conference final first leg against Sporting Kansas City, but video review confirmed multiple players were offside leading to the goal.
David Guzman tapped in a ball that bounced around the box after Diego Valeri sent in a free kick. As players celebrated the goal, a flag was thrown. A review of the play confirmed Guzman and Liam Ridgewell — the two players involved with the goal — were offside. The game was in the 78th minute at the time of this post and the score remained 0-0 at Providence Park. See a replay of the no goal above. Timbers have a goal waived off for an offside call. David Guzman headed it in, but referee Robert Sibiga consults with the VAR official and determines correctly that Liam Ridgwell and Guzman were both offside. Still 0-0 in Portland, 72nd minute.
