LA Galaxy leave 13 players unprotected for Expansion Draft

The LA Galaxy have left 13 players unprotected for the 2018 MLS Expansion Draft, which is Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET as FC Cincinnati prepares to join MLS for the 2019 season. FC Cincinnati has 5 picks and may only select one player from any one club.

The major roster decisions are being made without an officially announced general manager or head coach in place for the Galaxy, despite reports of Dennis te Kloese filling the GM role and Dominic Kinnear dropping the “interim” part of his interim head coach title.

Of the players left unprotected, midfielder Chris Pontius is the only one who is out of contract, but he is in negotiations with the Galaxy for a new contract in 2019. Goalkeeper Justin Vom Steeg had his contract option exercised for the 2019 season. Jorgen Skjelvik, Tomas Hilliard-Arce, Perry Kitchen are under contract for the 2019 season, but all other players on the unprotected list below had their options declined by the Galaxy last week.

LA Galaxy players unprotected:

Goalkeepers: Brian Sylvestre and Justin Vom Steeg.

Defenders: Michael Ciani, Ashley Cole, Tomas Hilliard-Arce, Jorgen Skjelvik, and Sheanon Williams (eligible for Free Agency).

Midfielders: Servando Carrasco, Baggio Husidic (eligible for free agency), Perry Kitchen, João Pedro (currently out on loan) and Chris Pontius.

Forwards: Ariel Lassiter.
