The Houston Dynamo sent their natural third-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft to the Montreal Impact for defender Chris Duvall, the club announced Monday.
Duvall, 27, primarily plays as a right back. He spent the past two seasons with the Impact, starting in 39 of 42 games played. He made 14 starts in 15 appearances last season and tallied an assist.
Prior to that, Duvall played for the New York Red Bulls from 2014-16 after being drafted 22nd overall in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. He has a total of 101 career MLS appearances, 91 starts, two goals and seven assists. A Duluth, Ga., native, Duvall played four years of college ball at Wake Forest.
“The addition of Chris will strengthen our defensive group as we prepare for the upcoming season,” Matt Jordan, senior vice president and general manager, said in a statement released by the club. “He joins our club at a prime age and brings extensive league, playoff and Champions League experience, which will be important for our group moving forward.”
With the addition of Duvall, the Dynamo now have 20 players under contract ahead of the 2019 season.
“We are pleased to bring Chris to the Houston Dynamo. We believe he has the talent and the mentality to compete for a position in our team,” Dynamo head coach Wilmer Cabrera said in the statement. “He has enough experience in this league to understand the challenges we will face in 2019, and we know that he is a person committed to create a great professional attitude and environment in the locker room.”
