Houston — The Houston Dynamo unveiled their limited edition adidas x Parley For the Oceans jerseys Thursday and were sold out online within an hour. All Major League Soccer teams wear the parley jerseys on Earth Day weekend.
The idea of this unique collaboration between MLS, adidas and Parley for the Oceans is to help encourage fans to decrease their dependence on single-use plastics and to help educate them on the importance of changing behavior toward plastic pollution.
The Dynamo will wear their eco-friendly kit for their April 19 match against the LA Galaxy at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
Several Dynamo players have already tried on the dark blue jerseys, which are made of recycled ocean plastics. Mauro Manotas, Adam Lundqvist and Kiki Struna all modeled the special edition jersey at Allen’s Landing in Downtown Houston, a location considered “Houston’s heart”.
Parley For the Oceans directly helps the city of Houston, along with the Buffalo Bayou Partnership and the Houston Parks Board, to maintain the city’s clean waterways.
For those fans not able to buy the jersey online or from the team store Friday, they will be available for purchase this weekend when the Dynamo take on with San Jose Earthquakes at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Those interested in getting the exact same jerseys that Manotas, Lundqvist and Struna wore can bid on them during the Dynamo Charities auction for game-worn Parley jerseys.
