Atlanta United’s Eric Remedi, George Bello return to training

MARIETTA, Ga. — Atlanta United midfielder Eric Remedi and fullback George Bello returned to first-team training Tuesday.

Remedi missed Saturday’s 2-1 loss to FC Dallas because of a concussion he sustained during Atlanta’s 2-0 win over the New England Revolution a week prior. In the game against the Revs, the Argentine went down 10 seconds after the opening whistle when he would up on the wrong end of an areal challenge with Luis Caicedo. Remedi initially stayed in the game, but he subbed off in the 15th minute, making way for eventual Man of the Match Ezequiel Barco.

Bello, the 17-year-old Homegrown talent, started Atlanta’s first game of 2019, a 3-1 loss at Herediano in the Concacaf Champions League on February 21 and has not played with the senior team since. Bello injured his groin shortly after the Herediano game and aggravated the injury in an appearance with Atlanta United 2 on March 9.

Bello typically plays at left fullback in a back-four formation and left wingback in a back three. Depth at those positions has been tested since Mikey Ambrose went down with a torn right meniscus earlier this month. Brek Shea, an offseason free-agent signing, has been the No. 1 option of late on the left side.

Remedi participated in all drills during Tuesday’s media access period at the Children’s Healthcare Training Ground. Bello participated in a shooting drill, but sat out a 4-v-4 session and did groin exercises.

Atlanta United (1-3-2, 5 points) returns to Major League Soccer play this Saturday against the Colorado Rapids (0-6-2, 2 points), in a matchup of the Eastern and Western Conferences’ last-place teams. Kickoff from Mercedes-Benz Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
