As if losing to a USL side Tuesday in the first match of the U.S. Open Cup wasn’t bad enough for the Chicago Fire, more drama ensued after the 2-1 defeat to Saint Louis FC.
Fire players went over to thank the traveling supporters for making the trek down I-55. As that happened, some fans expressed their frustration to the players, including midfielder Djordje Mihailovic.
Mihailovic’s response, cursing at a fan, was caught on video. His outburst caused a social media stir among the team’s supporters, which already were upset after the loss.
The video contains vulgar language.

Mihailovic took to Twitter to apologize Wednesday afternoon.
“I love this club and all I want is to help it win,” the post read. “I let the frustration of last night’s result get the better of me and I behaved in a way that was inappropriate and embarrassing. I apologize to those fans and to the entire club for my action. I will learn from this moment, will work to improve myself both on and off the field and will continue giving my all for the club and our great fans.”
