Watch: Wayne Rooney’s stunning goal from midfield against Orlando City

Wayne Rooney once again had a highlight-reel moment against Orlando City

Wayne Rooney looked up toward Orlando City SC’s goal and saw goalkeeper Brian Rowe off of his line.

What did D.C. United’s forward do?

He decided to take the shot from 68 yards away.

It went in.

The stunning goal opened the scoring in the 10th minute of D.C. United’s game against Orlando City.

It is the longest goal in MLS since 2012.

Orlando City midfielder Sacha Kljestan lost control of the ball before it bounced right toward Rooney. The former Manchester United star did the rest, scoring one of the best goals so far in MLS this season.

Rowe made a diving attempt but was left helpless as the ball went over his head and into the net.

The goal ended up No. 1 on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays on Wednesday.

This is not the first time Rooney has had a jaw-dropping sequence against the Lions. In the two teams’ matchup last year in Washington D.C., Rooney made a tackle after a corner, and then passed the ball for Luciano Acosta’s game-winning goal in the second half of stoppage time.

Earlier this year, Rooney scored a free-kick goal in Orlando a few yards away from the Lions’ corner flag. D.C. United ended up winning the contest 2-1.
