Reign FC was supposed to host Utah Royals FC in a mid-week NWSL clash Wednesday at Cheney Field in Tacoma, Washington, but mother nature intervened.
The game was initially canceled, but has since been rescheduled for 10 p.m. EST on Sept. 25.
After that area of Washington was hit with a significant amount of rainfall over the last few days, the two clubs determined that the playing surface at Cheyney Field was “unplayable” prior to the start of the game Wednesday.
“The safety of the players is of the utmost priority, and as such, both of the clubs and the NWSL came to a collective agreement to reschedule tonight’s match,” a statement from Reign FC read.
All tickets for Wednesday’s game will be valid for the rescheduled date, the Reign said.
When played, the match will be a crucial one to both side’s playoff chances. The Royals and Reign are fourth and fifth in the NWSL table, each having 31 points. Just four teams make the NWSL’s playoffs.
The Royals are in good form, having won three of their last four games, while the Reign are 1-1-2 over the same stretch.
