Former Orlando City goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh and defender Danilo Acosta were both selected in the MLS End-of-Year Waiver Draft on Monday. Minnesota United selected Ranjitsingh with the 16th overall pick, while the Los Angeles Galaxy selected Acosta.
Orlando City did not participate in the End-of-Year Waiver Draft this year. The club traded its No. 3 overall pick to the New England Revolution in exchange for the No. 39 overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft along with the No. 11 pick in the 2019 MLS End-of-Year Waiver Draft. However, the club elected not to use the No. 11 waiver draft select.
Ranjitsingh was one of two players former coach James O’Connor brought to the Lions from his former role leading Louisville City FC. The goalkeeper was behind starting goalkeeper Brian Rowe and backup Adam Grinwis on the roster. Ranjitsingh played in only two games this season, going 0-1-1 while logging four saves and allowing three goals.
Acosta saw similarly limited minutes with Orlando City this season after growing as a role player during three seasons with Real Salt Lake. The defender played in eight games, mainly in the middle of the season, sitting on the bench for the final 13 matches of 2019.
