Vancouver Whitecaps FC selected midfielder Ryan Raposo with the fourth overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft Thursday afternoon.
Raposo, 20, played for Syracuse University for two years and is a Hamilton, Ontario native, meaning he will count as a domestic player on the Whitecaps roster. Because Raposo is also a Generation Adidas player, he can automatically be added to the Vancouver first team.
Raposo is capable of playing on the wing and in a central attacking midfield role. He recorded 15 goals and seven assists last season with Syracuse, which was up from the four goals and seven assists he put away as a college freshman.
He was named to the 2019 All-ACC First Team and previously represented the Canada U-15 men’s national team. Raposo has had training stints with German clubs TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Mainz 05 and SV Sandhausen.
