The Houston Dash and Chicago Red Stars played to a 1-1 draw Sunday in front of an announced crowd of 5,846 at BBVA Compass Stadium.
It was the season opener for both teams.
Savannah Jordan delivered a low cross at the near post and Kimberly Keever slid toward it, scoring her first professional goal in the 37th minute for the host Dash.
Houston protected the lead through the second half, but Danielle Colaprico’s corner kick found Taylor Comeau, who delivered an equalizer in the first minute of stoppage time.
“I think the players executed the game plan very, very well until the last phase of the game. It’s a shame because we were in control for the whole game,” first-year Dash coach Vera Pauw told the Houston Chronicle. “We started to make a few unnecessary fouls and that brought all the pressure on us.”
